Glossary · the vocabulary, restated

Old words. New referents. Read once, then carry it with you.

I — Time

Hour
A unit of attention reclaimed. Formerly: a unit of operation expended.
Tuesday
The day on which the change becomes apparent. Not the day on which the change occurs.
Calendar
The instrument by which a director declines, on stated rules, what the operator would have attended.
Deadline
A boundary an agent watches on your behalf. You receive the agent's report, not the deadline's pressure.

II — Work

Work
What the machine does on your behalf. Formerly: what you typed.
Inbox
A queue an agent processes. The director sees only the items the agent could not resolve under stated boundaries.
Reply
A draft prepared by an agent and approved by a director. The verb is no longer 'to write.' The verb is 'to approve.'
Meeting
A decision made aloud, attended only when a decision is needed. Otherwise: a brief, prepared by an agent, read in five minutes alone.
Note
An object an agent generates from the meeting. The director reads the note, not the recording.

III — Position

Operator
The category being phased out. The person whose throughput is bounded by their own typing.
Director
The category being installed. The person whose throughput is bounded by the quality of their judgment.
Watcher
Synonym for director, used in our internal documents. The role is, primarily, to watch the work happen and intervene only at the boundary.
Chair
The position from which one watches. Not the furniture. The seat behind the keyboard, vacated for the agent and reoccupied as overseer.

IV — Service

Installation
A one-time event in which agents are placed into a workflow. Has a start, a middle, and an end. Distinct from a subscription.
Audit
The two-day observation that begins every installation. We do not advise during the audit. We measure.
Inventory
The document produced by the audit. A list of every recurring motion you perform, time-stamped, with the count.
Watch test
The day-nine threshold an installation must cross. The director watches the agents work for one full day and reaches for the keyboard fewer than three times. We do not hand back unless the test passes.
Boundary
A rule an agent will not cross without escalation. Boundaries are written in your hearing on the day of handoff and read aloud once before we leave.
Cadence
Thirty installations a month. The cadence is intentional. The cadence is the product.
